Australia – Brunching and exploring Degraves Street!

As expected, our four days in Australia zipped by.  For our last day, we decided to spend it within Melbourne city with our friends.  They took us to a lovely cafe for breakfast which had one of the most interesting interior designs I’ve seen.  Lot’s of character within these walls!  As with most places in Melbourne, the atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable.  The food and coffee was delicious.  I had a Greek yogurt with granola and fruit on a little puddle of soaked chia seeds.  Very yummy and nutritious start to the day.  K had Walnut banana bread with maple syrup and clotted cream.  A very decadent morning treat.  Miss these guys so much ❤  After breakfast, we headed into the city core to explore the little alleyways that are very unique to Melbourne.  I’ve never seen anything like it.  They have these narrow lanes with both sides lined with cafes and restaurants and seating right in the middle.  The streets were bustling with people chatting over lattes and delicious looking brunch fare. Degraves street is …

Hong Kong [Part 1] Eating boatloads of delicious food and performing surgery on Hairy Crabs

Despite being born and raised in Canada, every time I go back to Hong Kong to visit my family, it always feels like home.  Something about the fast paced lifestyle, the food, the culture… it just feels right.  This time I went with the bf and only had 10 days as opposed to my usual month long stay.  With such a tight timeline, everyday was packed with delicious food, glorious sight seeing, and lots of walking.  October offered comfortable weather conditions – dry wit temperatures hovering around mid to high 20’s.  Very comfortable compared to summers in Hong Kong!   After 16hours in the air, we arrived late at night and headed over to Tsui Wah for a quick midnight snack.  Tsui Wah (翠華集團) is a typical HK style cafe with multiple locations across HK island.  Warning: the Malaysian noodle soup was INSANELY spicy but the wonton soup was good, pretty standard. The next morning decided to go for a classic milk tea, sammy and macaroni soup breakfast at Hao Wah (豪華).  Again, pretty standard, …

Seafood in South Carolina

Charleston was my favorite city by far from our road trip.  It had a very Californian feel with its palm trees, warm dry breezes, and an active community.  All the beaches, restaurants, and points of interest we wanted to hit up were within driving distance of one another which was brilliant.  Our first stop was breakfast at Hominy Grill.  We found this place online as it was starred in several food networks and was highly rated – for a good reason too.  The place is extremely clean and beautifully decorated that gave it a perfect summer brunch venue feel.   We opted to sit outdoors since it was such a gorgeous day.  Their breakfast menu is a modest one-pager with Southern classics like Shrimp & Grits, Biscuits, and waffles.  I went straight for the grits.  K went with a spinach and feta omelet with taters.  This being the first time I’ve ever tried grits, I was blown away by how much flavor was packed into what seemingly looked like plain porridge.  It was delicious!!!  In …

Baltimore, MD

Driving along the East Coast, the one food – amongst the many – that was on our to-eat list was really good seafood.  Baltimore offered an abundance of seafood restaurants, all of which came with pretty hefty price tags.  I know seafood in general is pricier, but we must have been pretty deep in touristy/busy district because the prices we saw were pretty inflated. We settled for an Italian family-owned restaurant called Sebastian which was a modest little place tucked into Little Italy.  The service was superb and the food was absolutely delicious.  For our appetizer, we shared a portabello mushroom stuffed with a generous amount of crab meat. For our mains, I got pan fried jumbo shrimp with a side of pasta in marinara sauce.  K got this amazing melt-in-your-mouth Chilean sea bass on penne.  The whole meal was definitely a splurge but I haven’t had such delicious seafood in a while so I think it was worth it. The next day we got up bright and early to check out a breakfast joint …
